ABOUT ME

Meet Me:
Bio:
Long story, short: Believer. Wife. Mother. Teacher, Coach. Student. Athlete. Creative. Blessed.
Long story, long:
I am blessed. I have had the privilege to be married to my best friend for almost 10 years! I can't imagine what my life would be like if I did not have him to share my joys and sorrows, accomplishments and failures, hopes and dreams. He is my one and only. My forever and ever.

While we did have a ceremony at home with all of our friends and family, we actually eloped in Hawaii. We were married at sunset, barefoot, on the beach, with no one but our immediate families present. It was the stuff dreams are made of.

I am the mom of two amazing kids, who have made me look at life from a whole different lense. I am constantly begging for time to slow down. I love watching them grow and see their personalities shine! They are my everything!

I am an avid runner. I love the thrill of chasing down goals, of pushing myself to new limits, and of working hard. It's a great stress reliever, and helps me to calm when I feel anxious. My favorite event of the whole year is the Cascade Lakes Relay. We cram 12 people in 2 vans and run 216+ beautiful miles in Central Oregon in 2 days. It's intense, but it's awesome!

I have my Bachelors of Science in Sociology with a minor in Educational Psychology and Coaching from George Fox University. I also have my Masters in Education with an emphasis in Reading from Corban University. I am in the middle of my fifth year of teaching kindergarten, but subbed for K-12 for two years before that.  I love teaching and strive to be a better teacher every day. I teach at a Private Christian School, and I love that I get to teach them about school, but also about God and what it means to love like Jesus loves. Each year I have an amazing group of kiddos that I fall in love with and adore more than I can put into words. I hope that I bless them as much as they bless me.

Staying true to my running passion, I also coach track and cross country. My teams are pretty amazing and this picture just captures their personalities so well! (http://eanperkinsphotography.com/ is to thank for this picture-my copy is poor quality, but his work is stellar!)

On to the teacher survey:
Q: What would you be doing if you weren’t a teacher?
I started out my college career planning on being a lawyer...In retrospect, I don't think I ever wanted that sort of life. I probably would be doing something with children still. My Bachelors degree is in Sociology/Educational Psychology. I would probably be a social worker and cry myself to sleep every night.
Q: What are your hobbies?
A shorter list might be, "What are not my hobbies?" First of all, I am a teacher. It is definitely a hobby as much as a job. I have spent countless evenings, weekends, and vacations making centers or doing research. Also, I am an avid runner. That is probably my biggest hobby. I have run 6 half-marathons and am looking forward to many more. I love reading, gardening, baking, scrapbooking, photography, watching my brothers play sports, wakeboarding, snowboarding, camping, hiking, road-tripping. Oh my, I could go on forever. Really, anything active or outside, and I'm there!
Q: When you were little, what did you want to be when you grew up?
It's funny how our childhood dreams can truly come true. When I was in first grade, I told my mom that I wanted to be a missionary and a teacher. In many ways, I feel like I have accomplished both of those. Teaching is a lot like being a missionary. You work long hours, with little pay, but the reward of seeing the growth of those around you is so much more rewarding than any dollar figure could represent.
Q: What are your guilty pleasures?
Chocolate. Listening to Ashlee Simpson and Michael Jackson. Staying up late and sleeping in.
Q: What is your biggest fear?!
Believe it or not, I'm actually terrified of dolls (anyone else unfortunately witness Child's Play at way too young of an age?). I'm also terrified of failure. On many levels I'm a perfectionist, because I'm always afraid I'm being judged. I'm getting better, but I'm definitely afraid of letting people down.
Q: When you’re on vacation, where do you like to go?
My favorite vacations have been to Hawaii. Nothing beats sitting on the beach, in the sun, listening to the waves crash, and reading a good book. My dream vacation is to Jamaica. Ever since I saw Cool Runnings {Best Movie Ever!}, I've been obsessed with Jamaica!
Q: What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
I don't know about the best advice someone has given me, but the biggest thing I'm learning as a new teacher is to not expect everything to be done immediately. I read blogs and see how amazing master teachers are, and sometimes I have to remind myself that they took YEARS of getting to that point. I wear myself ragged [often] trying to have everything perfect, and sometimes I just have to remind myself to slow down.
Q: What do you value most in others?
Respect hands.down.
Q: If you could choose one of your personality traits to pass down to your kids, what would it be?
To be joyful. Truly joyful.
Q: If you could have lunch with anyone in the world….living or dead…who would it be?
Jesus. I have SO many questions. And my grandpa-I miss him. A lot.
Now tell us one random thing about yourself:
If I had my choice, my ideal sleeping schedule would be from 3 a.m. until noon. I'm not a morning person.
